Crowd Pleasing Bubbles
Glenora Wine Cellars Raspberry Spumanté is made in the transfer method, with the second fermentation happening in the bottle. This makes it a little less intense than other sparkling wines. They use only all natural raspberry flavor. Nothing artificial approaches the wine. This wine is great for those who are reluctant to try sparkling wine for fear of dryness. It’s sweet and fruity, and is a great any occasion or celebration wine. Raspberry Spumante is available in Glenora’s tasting room, online at glenora.com, and in select retailers. Retail price is $15.99.
Lakewood Vineyards Bubbly Candeo is an off-dry sparkler made from Cayuga White grapes. It is quickly becoming one of Lakewood’s signature wines. The wine is made from 100% free-run juice, the most delicate fraction of the juice. It makes your palate tingle with crisp bubbles and bright apple notes. You can think of it as “Prosecco style” and drink it accordingly. Delicious by itself, it is also a fantastic base for mimosas. Find it in their tasting room, online, and at select retailers. Retail price is $13 per bottle. It’s also available in a 4-pack of 250ml cans (the equivalent of 1 liter) for $16.
Standard-Setting Sparklers
Boundary Breaks 2020 Glitz Bubbly Gewurztraminer comes from a very warm growing season and the fruit got very ripe. As a result, this wine is unmistakably a Gewurztraminer. But, when you add carbon dioxide to a powerfully-flavored wine like Gewurz, it lightens the overall impression. What you end up with is a great option for food pairing, a wine with enough flavor to stand up to the strong flavors of a traditional holiday menu, yet still refreshing due to its bubbles. A great combination. Retail price is $19.95. Available here.
Anthony Road Wine Company 2016 Sparkling Riesling came from ARWC’s MFV R2 Block due to the bright tropical, citrus notes the site exhibits. Fermented to dryness and then aged on its lees in stainless tanks for 10 months, the wine was bottled in August 2017. It then went through a secondary fermentation in the bottle. Then it was aged in the bottle for 2 years before disgorgement on July 29 & 30, 2019. This is a traditional method sparkling wine and can be thought of as brut in nature. Retail price is $45.
Lamoreaux Landing Wine Cellars 2014 Blanc de Blanc. Made from 100% Chardonnay grapes, this wine is refreshing and refined, made in the traditional methode champenoise. A lingering creamy finish from over five years spent on the lees. The bubbles are fine and sophisticated, offering a lightness to the palate. Retail price is $45.
Splurge-Worthy
Fox Run Vineyards 2009 Late Disgorged Blanc de Blancs is a splurge-worthy wine. If limited production wines are your favorite, this bottle is right up your alley! It was released on December 1st and available only in Fox Run’s tasting room (not online or in wine shops) because only 100 bottles are available! After extended aging on lees, this sparkling wine developed complex flavors of honey and toast. It is elegant and makes a wonderful celebratory wine for any special occassion. Retail price is $85.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”31522″ img_size=”medium”][vc_single_image image=”31532″ img_size=”medium”][vc_single_image image=”31530″ img_size=”medium”][vc_single_image image=”31529″ img_size=”medium”][vc_single_image image=”31574″ img_size=”medium”][vc_single_image image=”31528″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
