Red Newt Cellars was founded in 1998 by David and Debra Whiting. Wine production was started with the 1998 vintage with a mere 1,200 cases of Chardonnay, Riesling, Vidal, Cayuga, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The first white wines were released at the grand opening of the winery and restaurant in July of 1999.
Red Newt Cellars was founded in 1998, and is a preeminent producer of wine in the Finger Lakes wine region of New York State.
The current production at Red Newt Cellars is approximately 20,000 cases with the white wine focus on aromatic varieties: Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris. “Circle” Riesling, Red Newt’s most popular and widely distributed wine, shows off a classic Finger Lakes style, expressing bright aromas of tangerine and honeysuckle and an elegant palate of citrus and peach. The wine – and the price – are great, and represent one of the best value Rieslings in North America. Red varietals include Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon.
We are excited to welcome you to Red Newt Cellars and share our wines and story with you! Our hospitality team will be happy to help guide you through our wines, which are available as a traditional tasting, by the flight, glass, bottle, and “tadpole” (personal-sized bottles selected from our reserve and library wines).
Traditional (Stand-up) Tasting is available on a first come first serve basis – no reservations are available for the Tasting Bar.
Our seated experience includes wine by the flight, glass, bottle, and Red Newt Tadpole. We have also created an elegant menu of light fare and small bites to complement your wine selections. When you arrive at Red Newt one of our servers will escort you to a table – outside on our decks or indoors, pending your reservation and the weather – where you will be able to relax and begin your experience. >>> Make a Reservation
