One of the newest wineries on Seneca Lake, the story of Tabora began in 1989 when Jane and Roger Eatherton purchased a 10-acre orchard in Bucks County, PA. Jane and Roger quickly became well known to the local Bucks County farmer’s market community for their creative and high-quality foods under the name of Tabora Farm and Orchard. This memorable name of Tabora originated from Jane’s childhood home in Cape Town, South Africa. Tabora Farm and Orchard operated for 20 years and was sold in 2009.
A Wine and Food Destination
Jane and Roger started a new venture in the Finger Lakes of New York as Tabora Vineyards operating a 250-acre farm supplying local and national wine and juice producers. A naturally ambitious family, the cultivation of this farm led them to wanting more. Looking to use facilities and structures that were already a part of the 100+ year old farm property, Jane and Roger drew out the vision to turn a Quonset hut into a wine production facility and tasting room space. In 2020, among a year of challenges, the space is open and the vision continues.
Tabora’s current wine portfolio focuses on native and hybrid grape varieties and how they tell the story of grape and wine prevalence throughout the history of the Finger Lakes. More recently, Tabora has been expanding vinifera plantings and have even highlighted a variety with South African ties – Syrah! Our winemaker focuses on minimal intervention while still maintaining pristine and traditional winemaking practices in order to highlight clean, crisp, and concentrated wines sure to please any variety of pallets.
