Family farm making artisan cheese from our own milk. They make cheese curd, Monterey Jack, Parmesan, Swiss and Cheddar-like cheeses. Tours available by appointment.
Hoffman Dairy was started 5 Generations ago in this spot. It had been in Operation 27 miles south prior to that. Their beginning on this farm started in 1905 and has remained in the family since then. They are currently operating with the 4th and 5th generations with the 6th generation learning the ropes of farming and cheese making!
The Creamery The Creamery started in 2004 as a value-added addition to the farm. They are artisan cheese producers who use only their own milk. They pride ourselves in making the freshest cheese available by using only the freshest milk. They use vegetable rennet and use no hormones or antibiotics. They make cheddars, Monterrey Jack, cheese curd, Mozzarella, BelPaese, heritage (a Parmesan/Swiss blend)
Visit The Farm
They offer self-guided tours of the farm so you can get to know the animals. If you would like a guided tour, they charge $2.00/person and require reservations. Their samplings of cheese are always free. During the summer season (Memorial Day- Labor Day, they are open 7 days a week from 10-5
Pairing Cheese With Wine
Although peoples tastes are different, they will do their best to help you pair our cheeses with some of the local wines. This is based on their trials and those of some of the wineries with whom they partner.
Their cheddars pair well with a number of wines, but what they found especially pleasing was:
-Razor Sharp pairs well with drier wines–it helps to bring out the flavor of the wine and the cheese
-Down on the Beach pairs well with Oaked or Stainless Chardonnay, Baco Noir and Merlots
-Deep Seneca goes best with Semi-dry Rieslings (the Finger Lakes Rieslings are wonderful)
-Johannisberg goes well with Riesling, Pinot Gris, and the Semi-dry reds
-Tomato Basil Jack or Curd pairs well with the Dry Reds (they go well with Pasta) and the Rose’ style wines
-Tyson’s Zatar pairs well with any and all Rieslings and the Gewurztraminers. (This cheese will amaze you. Depending on what it is paired with depends on what flavors are brought forward. Any of the wines that compliment “spice” will pair well with this cheese)
-Buffalo Curd: This is traditionally a “beer and cheese” combo, but pairs well with the lighter bodied sweeter wines both red and white.
-KTM’s Garlic Delight: pairs well with any of the middle of the road wines, but goes nicely with a Seyval Blanc or Cabernet
They are generally closed from January – April. During that time, the online store will remain open, and they will continue to make cheese. If you are in the area and want to stop, please call and make arrangements for a time.
Sunset View Creamery is located on Hoffmans Dairy, a century farm located outside of Odessa, New York, 15 minutes South of Watkins Glen. They are a Farmstead/ Artisan Cheese Production Facility that is operated, along with the farm, by the 4th and 5th generation of Hoffmans. All the milk that is used to make our cheese comes from our predominantly Holstein herd with a few Jerseys and Ayrshires mixed in.
