| | Firstly, a hearty thank you to the following folks for making our first annual Golden Nose Award: A Wine Judging Weekend such a success: The wineries that entered wines, bought tickets and volunteered staff to help with the event, the incredibly capable and organized staff of the Corning Museum of Glass, Corning Catering and the Rockwell Museum of Western Art that were directly responsible for helping make this a world-class, memorable event for all participants, the volunteers that worked tirelessly throughout Saturday's 13+ hours and Mike Rusinko and Assemblyman Jim Bacalles for presenting the Awards. The following are the Best of Class award winners, representing some of the very best wines produced here in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State: WINERY, WINE, CLASS Chateau Lafayette Reneau, Owners Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, Best of Red Viniferas Knapp Winery & Restaurant, Vignoles, Best of White Hybrid Lakewood Vineyards, Cabernet Franc, Best of Cabernet Franc Prejean Winery, Riesling, Best of Rieslings Red Newt Cellars, Inc., Red Newt White, Best of White Viniferas Sheldrake Point Vineyard, Riesling Ice Wine, Best of Dessert Wines Torrey Ridge Winery, Blue Sapphire, Best of Red Labruscas Lucas Vineyards, Miss Behavin, Best of White/Blush Labrusca Event Highlights: With hundreds of wines, dozens of newly trained Judges, and well over a hundred attendees at the Awards Dinner, the event was universally praised and considered a sound success, especially considering this is the first year of the event. Representatives from the event organizer, the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, assured this year's Judges that the event will take place next year. The former Seneca Lake Wine Trail Executive Director, Barbara Adams, was honored at the Golden Nose Award by her husband Cal Adams. Ms. Adams, who passed away in the summer of 2005, was one of the primary creators of this unique event. Mr. Adams took a few moments to recall her committment to the wine industry that she helped grow throughout her 20+ years in the industry. Mike Rusinko, the newly appointed President of the Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance, teamed up with State Assemblyman Jim Bacalles to present the Gold, Double-Gold and Best-of-Class awards to the several winning wineries. Music played throughout the evening, and featured local musicians Mike Lese & Friends and John Manfredi. The next Golden Nose Award: A Wine Judging Weekend is tentatively scheduled to take place March 31, 2007. The Golden Nose purposefully took place during the same weekend as the Corning NY Glass Sale event in Corning's Gaffer District. This event, the only time internationally renowned Steuben Glass is available at a discounted price, attracts consumers to Corning from around the world. Corning Museum of Glass spokesperson, Beth Duane said of the Glass Sale, "We are thrilled with this year's results. The tradition will definitely continue!" Thank you again to everybody that helped make this event happen. We all very much look forward to an even bigger, better 2nd Annual Golden Nose Award weekend.
