2009 Winery Awards Summary
Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards continues to receive acclaim around the United States for its 2007 vintage releases, most notably Riesling.  The Seneca Lake winery was awarded nine gold medals at the 2009 Grand Harvest Awards, the Appellation America’s “Best of Appellation” Evaluation Series and the 2009 Florida State International Wine & Grape Juice Competition this past February.

2009 Grand Harvest Awards
•    Gold:        Riesling – Semidry – 2007 Vintage
•    Gold:        Chardonnay – 2007 Vintage
The 2009 Grand Harvest Awards took place on February 18 - 20, 2009 at Sonoma Mountain Village, Rohnert Park, California.  According to its website, the contest has “a field of over 1600 entries from North America, Europe, South America, and the Pacific Rim.  It is the only wine-judging event in North America that is based on terroir - a group of vineyards (or vines) from the same region, belonging to a specific appellation, and sharing the same type of soil, weather conditions, grapes and wine making savoir-faire, which contribute to give its specific personality to the wine.”  Its 22 member panel is composed of sommeliers, wine writers, educators and winemakers.

Appellation America – Best of Appellation Evaluation Series
•    Gold:        Cabernet Franc – 2007 Vintage
•    Gold:        Cabernet Sauvignon – 2007 Vintage
•    Gold:        Riesling – Semidry – 2007 Vintage

•    Double Gold:    Red Cat – Non-vintage
According to its information, Appellation America’s mission is “to advance public knowledge and appreciation of the diverse winegrowing regions of North America. The Best-of-Appellation Evaluation Program is an on-going process of identifying the wines in each appellation which best express the character and the quality of wine craftsmanship in the region.”

2009 Florida State International Wine & Grape Juice Competition
